Replacement Window FAQs

How do you measure for replacement windows?

Accurate measurements are essential when replacing a window, as even small errors can affect the fit of your new window. That’s why we highly recommend having a professional handle the measurements for your window replacement. If you prefer to take your own window measurements:

  • Horizontal width: start with the horizontal width: measure at three points—top, middle, and bottom. Once you’ve taken these measurements, use the smallest of the three values as your final width.
  • Vertical height: Measure at three points—left, middle, and right—and use the smallest of these numbers as your final measurement.
  • Depth: Make sure to measure on all sides of your window.

How much will it cost to replace windows?

The cost of window replacement can fluctuate based on various factors, including window size, style, and more. At Window World, we have options available for all budgets. To get an estimate for your project, reach out to us today for a free estimate and explore our latest promotions.

How do you measure windows for blinds?

The method for measuring your window for blinds varies based on whether you have inside mount or outside mount blinds. Follow the steps below based on the type of blinds you intend to install:

Inside mount blinds:

  • Start by measuring the depth of your window frame.
  • Measure the width of your window at three points: the top, middle, and bottom. Take the smallest of these measurements to use as your final width.
  • Measure the height of your window at three points: the left, right, and center. Based on the type of blinds or shades you choose, you will use either the smallest or largest of these measurements.
  • Do not make any deductions from your width or height measurements, as manufacturers have already factored in allowances and adjustments.

Outside mount blinds:

  • Measure the width you want your blinds to cover, adding at least 1 ½” on each side for optimal coverage.
  • Measure the height from where you plan to hang your blinds down to the window sill. Make sure to leave a 1 ½” to 2” overlap at the top to accommodate your blinds’ mounting hardware.
  • Once more, do not make any deductions from your measurements, as manufacturers will account for this.

How do you clean windows?

To maintain your windows’ pristine and gleaming appearance, follow these simple steps:

  • Start by using a vacuum to remove larger dust and debris.
  • Wipe down your window sash and frame using a soft cloth dampened with soapy water.
  • Clean the glass panes with a paper towel (or lint-free cloth) and a glass cleaning solution, whether it’s store-bought or homemade.
  • Take out your window screens and clean them with a simple mixture of soap and water. Make sure to let your screens air-dry thoroughly after cleaning.

How do you replace a window screen?

Window screens play a significant role in both the functionality and aesthetics of your windows. If your window screen is significantly damaged, with holes or tears, it’s important to replace it promptly. To replace the screen, follow these steps:

  • First, remove the window screen from the frame.
  • Lay your screen flat and carefully remove the existing mesh from the grooves that secure it.
  • Roll out and stretch the replacement screen mesh over your window frame, allowing extra material along the edges, then cut it with your preferred tool.
  • Utilize a spline roller to press the new screen mesh into the grooves of your frame.
  • After securing the new mesh, trim any excess material along the edges.
  • Reinstall your finished window screen.

What is a window sash?

A window sash is the component of the window that holds the glass panes and their associated parts securely in place. The window sash fits into the window frame and can be either fixed or operable, depending on the style of the window. In double-hung windows, the window sash slides vertically to enable fresh air to circulate in and out of the home.
